An Introduction to Rebétiko through the life of Dimitris Gkogos - 'Bagianteras' (1903 - 1985)


Born out of a shared passion for Greek traditional music, Pliri Ntaxei was formed in Thessaloniki in Greece in in 2012. Since their inception, the group has earned a reputation as devoted custodians of Greek folk and rebétiko traditions. In this presentation, Pliri Ntaxei will offer an insightful overview of the socio-political landscape that shaped the development of rebétiko culture in early 20th-century urban Greece.


By exploring the life of Bagianteras (Greek rebétiko music pioneer), they will highlight the traditional instruments central to his legacy and conclude with renditions of two of his most celebrated songs.
