Prepare to be captivated by some of the finest singers, guitarists, and practitioners of the għana (Maltese folk music) tradition. This is an opportunity to listen to traditional għana and immerse yourself in an authentic, local setting.
The programme features two sessions of an improvised singing duel known as għana spirtu pront. This involves improvised lyrical duels accompanied by traditional guitar playing. Whilst being open to everyone, the event traditionally known as a serata, is also an opportunity for singers and dilettanti (dedicated followers of the tradition) to meet.
The event also offers an opportunity for you to learn and try your hand at the traditional game of boċċi, the local version of the Italian game of bocce, French pétanque and British bowls. Many small clubs can be found in Maltese and Gozitan localities, and are usually well-frequented by the locals. They have also been a haven for għana performers who would occasionally convene at boċċi clubs for a serata or a Sunday morning singing session.
Local food and drinks will be available at the bar.
This event is free of charge. Lineup:
